Childhood Disease Research Foundation

While most charities and foundations focus on the cure of a specific disease, CDRF tries to spur many different kinds of research efforts across the broad spectrum of diseases and medical needs. We put a special emphasis on new or alternative technologies, treatments or cures that impact children. These are the things that don’t get large-scale support from pharmaceutical companies, government sources and other foundations. That’s why we’re turning to you...

Optimal Medical Foundation focuses its efforts on the health of families.

One of its programs greatly reduces the pain, suffering and waste associated with diseases caused by parasites. De-worming medication is thought to be one of the most cost effective intervention methods in the treatment of intestinal parasitic diseases impairing growth, nutrition and school performance in children. OMF/CDRF help fund de-worming medicines as part of its disease control and family health initiatives, which may include keeping water safe, education to help communities become self-caring and bringing happiness to children in critical care wards in the United States.

Affordable rapid diagnostic health tests for families – help OMF help find the solution

Currently, there are more than 8,000,000 children a year who die of preventable disease in the developing world, including more than 4,000,000 children who die in the first year of life from infections. In the developed world many infants suffer from serious infection which can spread quickly without immediate diagnosis and treatment. Many of these infections can be treated and cured, but a major barrier to optimal therapy is diagnosis. Currently the gold standard for diagnosis is growing the offending organism using bacterial culture techniques. However, this takes several days to identity the offending pathogen and requires expensive facilities, typically beyond the reach of developing countries or experience delay while waiting for access to expensive lab tests and facilities.

The development of a point of care, rapid diagnostic test platform which is highly versatile could help measure a treatment’s progress for women with breast cancer or men with prostate cancer, right at the doctor’s office--- the future holds this possibility.

For almost 10 years, Optimal Medical Foundation has been committed to finding an inexpensive, point of care, rapid diagnostic test solution for the betterment of family health, here in the Unites States and around the world. Help us today to find that solution!
